June 2018 Passages

June 1, 2018

This is what the Lord says:

“Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them.  For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.  No one is like you, Lord ; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.
Jeremiah 10:2-3, 6 NIV

June 2, 2018

It is only God who sustains us and provides wisdom, knowledge, and strength. It is foolish to believe otherwise that our culture and people can do this on their own.

This is what the Lord says: “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them.  For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.  No one is like you, Lord ; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.
Jeremiah 10:2-3, 6 NIV

June 4, 2018

Know that Jesus has more than just your back! He has your dreams and desires for fullness of life in him. With his help you will achieve the purpose for which you are created.

Praise be to the Lord , for he has heard my cry for mercy.  The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
Psalm 28:6-7 NIV

June 5, 2018

Pray to Jesus to protect our country from our enemies, to provide wisdom to our leaders , and strength to withstand the evil that tries to invade.

The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.  Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.
Psalm 28:8-9 NIV

June 6, 2018

Jesus does not act like people who play games with the mind. He is also not insecure needing to prove his power by doing things to keep you guessing. He is light and seeking him makes life clear.

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:5 NIV

June 8, 2018

When it has been brought to your attention wrong has been done, from the heart apologize to the one offended, then to Jesus who makes you righteous before the Father.

"My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 2:1-2 NIV

June 9, 2018

To hate a person or groups of people based upon differences does not coincide with the command to love one another. We don't have to agree or believe the same way to extend brotherly love, kindness, and respect.

"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them."
1 John 2:9-11 NIV

June 11, 2018

To ponder the word love and what it means is personal and desired. Yet, what we desire is only a glimmer of what we receive from our Heavenly Father. And what we receive transforms us in the likeness of His Son.

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is."
1 John 3:1-2 NIV

June 12, 2018

Lawlessness is without borders or restraint indulging in desires contrary to the life we are called to live in Jesus. Yet, by his grace we have access to His power to practice self-control.

"Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3:4-6 NIV

June 13, 2018

You and I will make mistakes: a wrong decision, believe we are a victim, react in anger and frustration, make inappropriate judgements about people- yet in relationship with Jesus, the Holy Spirit let's us know when this happens so we can confess it, apologize, be forgiven, and learn from it.

"No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God."
1 John 3:9 NIV

The Majesty of the Lord is seen and heard in the ebb and flow of the tide as the waves of the ocean break upon the beach. You can soak in the power of God praising him and giving thanks. Our God is an awesome God!

"The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.  The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.
Psalm 29:3-4 NIV

June 15, 2018

It is not a question- but a certainty- know there is a polarizing affect people can have on your thinking and and way to live that is acceptable and even encouraged in society. Be careful and pay close attention so you are not pulled away from your relationship with Jesus.

"For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord."
Jude 1:4 NIV

Feelings change throughout the day dependent upon what is going on, what we are doing, and who we are with. So, Live fully, choose Jesus as your rock and celebrate the day!

My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.
Psalm 108:1 NIV

June 19, 2018

As part of this great nation and around the world our voice of praise is part of a grand harmonious song worshipping the One true God. To know at any moment in time our prayer is in unison with others let's us know we are not alone, but together strengthened in Him.

"I will praise you, Lord , among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples."
Psalm 108:3 NIV

June 20, 2018

Each of the characteristics of the Holy Spirit lives in us. Some of them may be more second nature while others more of a challenge. Through prayer and daily awareness of thoughts and actions we can develop all of these more fully to embody the light of Christ. It takes daily practice and perseverance!

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."

To complain is to take your eyes off the big picture which is, our God is still sovereign over the mess. And this mess we experience is for such a short time. So pray in those moments. Problem solve with each other. Allow God's power to shine over what seems impossible because our eternal life with him will be exceptionally joyous and beautiful!

Romans 8:18 NIV

"My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer."
Psalm 45:1 NIV

June 23, 2018

God tests our obedience. You may or may not see a bigger picture of what He is calling you to do- but following through on steps in the process to get where you are to go will demonstrate you are listening and willing to obey.

"The word of the Lord came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied.  The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”
Jeremiah 1:11-12 NIV

June 24, 2018

Whatever you are asked to do, there is a time for preparation through schooling, watching, listening, reading and it most definitely includes daily study and meditation on scripture to be able to know more fully God's call and expectations.  Once prepared, you will stand firm and be ready to obey.

“Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them."

Be alert to what you hear and think about doing. Wisdom originating from people that twists the word of God, perverts justice, and is embraced by the culture is not wise at all, but foolish and will negatively affect your life. Know God's word and embrace his wisdom.

“ The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and trapped. Since they have rejected the word of the Lord , what kind of wisdom do they have?"
Jeremiah 8:9 NIV

Our God is patient, gentle, and kind. He gets very excited and loves when we know and acknowledge to him that He is the source of all good: successes, achievements, big and small wins. Give thanks to Him who by His merciful hand grants what we are able to do.

This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,  but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord , who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord .

There is no one who can fill your every need. It is only God through His son Jesus you who completed and fully satisfied. Getting to know him personally fills your being. Practice having him be your first thoughts in the morning, then talk with him through out the day, then have him be the last one you talk with and thank him for all he gave you that day before you fall asleep.
